About me

I’ve been an editor since 2002 and accredited (IPEd) since 2016. I specialise in non-fiction and have a particular interest in history, biography and memoir.

I started my editing career in-house for a boutique academic publisher, copyediting peer-reviewed psychology and social sciences journals. I then moved to a multinational educational and trade publisher where I worked on a broad range of secondary and higher education titles.
I have been working freelance for the past thirteen years. I have edited peer-reviewed journal articles, textbooks (secondary and tertiary level), digital assets, newsletters, corporate services tender documents, fiction, memoir and self-help. Like most editors, I'm a word nerd and gatherer of interesting trivia. I love learning about new topics through my editing work. I have a particular love of history.
History
I always loved history at school, but decided to study psychology and then communications at university. But history kept calling to me (just ask my long-suffering family who have been dragged through museums on every holiday).
So, in 2016 I began a Postgraduate Diploma in Local, Family and Applied History with the University of New England. I loved it so much I continued into the Master of History and graduated in 2022. That's me on graduation day in the photo below. You'll notice my face is burnt – the New England sun is surprisingly harsh!
I’m particularly interested in marginalised histories, women’s history, public history and Australian history. I love bringing the past into the present in a way that is meaningful for people. As an editor, I want to help historians, authors and historical organisations connect to readers and audiences.

My qualifications
What is an accredited editor?
Accreditation is a process by which editors’ skills are assessed against measurable standards. Gaining accreditation with the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) involves passing a rigorous three-hour exam. When you hire me, an accredited editor, you can be confident you are hiring someone with recognised skills — not someone who’s done a 5-week online course.
Why Limetree?
The name Limetree is inspired by my name. I was named after the Linden tree (botanical name tilia, which is a type of lime tree). It’s a lovely large deciduous tree that grows in the northern hemisphere. Its flowers are used in herbal remedies, and they make a delicious tea.

Growing up in Australia in the 80s where no such trees existed, I yearned for a ‘normal’ name that wasn’t misspelled or mispronounced. (I also wished I could get one of those rulers, pencil cases or keyrings with my name embossed on it.)
When I travelled to Europe and saw some of my namesake trees in person, including the Unter den Linden in Berlin, my feelings changed.
Limetree Editorial seemed like a good name for a business. Plus, I love trees.
